OPERA TAMPA —
THE RESIDENT OPERA COMPANY OF THE
TAMPA BAY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
Now entering its 13th season, Opera Tampa is the resident opera company
of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Opera Tampa produces and presents
the highest caliber of grand opera, complete with the spectacle and grandeur
that makes opera "the queen of the performing arts." The elaborate,
full-scale productions feature international performers, the full Opera
Tampa Orchestra and the 50-60-member Opera Tampa Chorus, all under the
direction of world-renowned composer-conductor Anton Coppola. Opera Tampa
performs in The Center’s spectacular Carol Morsani Hall, which
was designed as a classic horseshoe opera house in the style of the grand
opera houses of Europe. The remarkable, near perfect acoustics in Morsani
Hall were designed by Russell Johnson, one of today’s finest acousticians.
The Opera Tampa Apprentice Program, beginning in 2007-2008, serves the Tampa Bay community by education and communicating the beauty of opera to its residents. The program features five singers, chosen after taking part in a nation-wise search, who serve as ambassadors of opera and song for the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. The Apprentice Program's director, singer-soprano Maria Zouves, world-renowned baritone Sherrill Milnes, and other internationally acclaimed artists will help the apprentices with career development, while educating the community and providing musical workshops, master classes and performances.
