Meet the Host of Center TV – Ann Poonkasem
Ann
Poonkasem graduated magna cum laude in 2000 where she received the Outstanding
Senior Award from the University of South Florida with a bachelor of music
in music-vocal performance with a minor in communications. She also received
her second bachelor's degree in mass communications-broadcast news in
May 2002 at USF. Ann plans to continue her graduate studies at the University
of South Florida starting this fall. Ann is active not only on campus
organizations but throughout the community as well. She has volunteered
her time for such agencies as Hands On Tampa (H.O.T.) as a volunteer and
ambassador, New Life Dwelling Place, The Joshua House, Clare Bridge, Shriners
Children's Hospital, Metropolitan Ministries, Habitat For Humanity. Aside
from her volunteer work, Ann has been involved with pageants for about
ten years - emceeing, judging, and competing. She has held the titles
of Miss Plant City 1998 (won the non-finalist talent award in voice at
the Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant), Miss Largo 1999, Miss University
of South Florida 2000, Miss Tampa 2001 (won first place for the Miss Florida
Community Service Award), Miss Dream Girl America 2001-2002. Ann was also
the 1998-99 Homecoming Queen of her university. Recently, Ann placed among
the Top 15 out of 55 contestants at the Miss Florida USA 2003 Pageant
where she also won the "Miss Amity" award. Her love of performance
led her to win the first annual Golden Key International Honor Society's
Performing Arts Showcase Award in voice in 1998 where she was chosen from
a pool of nearly 120 entrants from across the United States, Canada, Australia,
and Malaysia, to perform at their international convention in Los Angeles,
California, all-expense paid. Ann has performed at many USF commencement
ceremonies including her own, as well as former USF President, Betty Castor's
farewell ceremony, and current USF President, Judy Genshaft's inauguration
event. Aside from hosting Center TV, Ann is hosting a national show called
Hi-Rev Tuners, which airs weekly every Sunday nights at 10:30 p.m. Eastern/9:30
p.m. Central on the Speed Channel.
